Subject to terms and conditions

The first thing to remember is that all stair lifts were not created equal! Although there is an ever growing demand for stair lift equipment, it is truly amazing how many outdated products are being installed in peoples homes throughout the UK. This old technology equipment can be troublesome for the user - why? - because it's unreliable. Things have moved on since the days of chain drives and trailing cables.

Modern stair lifts, like the Stannah Starla Stair Lift, are state of the art, in terms of design and manufacture, yet are so simple to install and maintain.

As with most things - there is a baffling amount of choice out there in the marketplace. When choosing a piece of equipment like a stair lift, it is important to ensure that you are making like-for-like comparisons. Think carefully when buying this type of product via the internet. Your first real opportunity to clearly see the features, engineering (and limitations) of your new stair lift, is when it arrives on your doorstep.

Loaded with features

  1. Arm Isolation – For added safety, the stairlift won't be able to move until the armrest closet to the ground floor is fully lowered.

  2. Seat load sensor – Stannah have installed a sensor in the seat that detects when you are sitting down. The stairlift won't operate until you are safely seated.

  3. Easy-to-use seatbelt – To offer you even more security, and to accommodate those with less dexterity, Stannah has specifically designed a seatbelt that can easily be fastened with one hand.

  4. Safety Edges – In the event that something obstructs the stairlift, sensors on the edge of the carriage and footrest will automatically bring the stairlift to a safe stop.

  5. Quick Installation - Installed in just a few hours, the Starla makes it easier and safer to get up and down stairs, saving you the trouble and expense of moving to a new home.

Who are Stannah Stairlifts?

Stannah Lifts Holdings Ltd is a manufacturer of lifts based in Andover, Hampshire. Founded in 1867 in London as a crane and hoist manufacturer, the company began to produce lifts shortly after. Although varying types of lifts are manufactured by the company, it is best known for its stairlifts with which the company's name has become synonymous.

The company was founded in London in 1867 by Joseph Stannah, who had worked as an engineer since the 1820s.  Initially a manufacturer of cranes and hoists for transporting ships' cargo, the company began to make hand-powered passenger lifts at the turn of the 20th century.  Its first headquarters were located on Southwark Bridge Road, before moving to Bankside in the early 20th century. The company remained here until the site was destroyed during the London Blitz. The chairman at the time, Leslie Stannah, built new headquarters at Tiverton Street, Southwark using compensation money awarded to the company.
