The first thing to remember is that all stair lifts were not created equal! Although there is an ever growing demand for stair lift equipment, it is truly amazing how many outdated products are being installed in peoples homes throughout the UK. This old technology equipment can be troublesome for the user - why? - because it's unreliable. Things have moved on since the days of chain drives and trailing cables.
As with most things - there is a baffling amount of choice out there in the marketplace. When choosing a piece of equipment like a stair lift, it is important to ensure that you are making like-for-like comparisons. Think carefully when buying this type of product via the internet. Your first real opportunity to clearly see the features, engineering (and limitations) of your new stair lift, is when it arrives on your doorstep.
The Stannah range fold neatly away when not in use to maximise space on the stairs for other users. The seat and footrest fold away with one simple movement.
The Starla is available with a wide range of customisable options including fully upholstered or wood trimmed seat.
An outdoor version of the Stannah straight stairlift is available which is completely weatherproof and also comes with a durable protective cover.
Situated on the body of the stairlift this allows you to see the exact status of your Stannah stair lift at all times.

Who are Stannah Stairlifts?
Stannah Lifts Holdings Ltd is a manufacturer of lifts based in Andover, Hampshire. Founded in 1867 in London as a crane and hoist manufacturer, the company began to produce lifts shortly after. Although varying types of lifts are manufactured by the company, it is best known for its stairlifts with which the company's name has become synonymous.
The company was founded in London in 1867 by Joseph Stannah, who had worked as an engineer since the 1820s. Initially a manufacturer of cranes and hoists for transporting ships' cargo, the company began to make hand-powered passenger lifts at the turn of the 20th century. Its first headquarters were located on Southwark Bridge Road, before moving to Bankside in the early 20th century. The company remained here until the site was destroyed during the London Blitz. The chairman at the time, Leslie Stannah, built new headquarters at Tiverton Street, Southwark using compensation money awarded to the company.
