The first thing to remember is that all stair lifts were not created equal! Although there is an ever growing demand for stair lift equipment, it is truly amazing how many out dated products are being installed in peoples homes throughout theUK. This old technology equipment can be troublesome for the user - why? - because it's unreliable. Things have moved on since the days of chain drives and trailing cables.
Modern stair lifts, like the Handicare Freecurve Stair Lift, are state of the art, in terms of design and manufacture, yet are so simple to install and maintain.
As with most things - there is a baffling amount of choice out there in the marketplace. When choosing a piece of equipment like a stair lift, it is important to ensure that you are making like-for-like comparisons. Think carefully when buying this type of product via the internet. Your first real opportunity to clearly see the features, engineering (and limitations) of your new stair lift, are when it arrives on your doorstep.
Turn and Go has been specially developed to help those customers who have a very narrow curved staircase. Once seated, your seat will turn automatically so that your back faces the stairs, not the wall or handrail, during travel and thereby move your knees away from clashes with the wall or banister. It can also be used to help those who have difficulty bending their knees to fit into the available stair width.
Thanks to the powered and illuminated footplate, you no longer have to bend down to fold up the footplate. At the press of a button, the footplate automatically folds up or down whilst you remain seated. The footplate is also illuminated when it is folded down, which makes it easy to see in the dark. This means there is no danger of others tripping over the footplate at night or in low light conditions.
The control joystick is located on the end of the arm and operate with the lightest of touches. Ideal for those with limited dexterity.
Designed for those who may need extra support and stability. The contoured design makes the harness more comfortable to wear and each harness comes with adjustable straps to tailor the harness to your needs.
When you arrive at the top of the stairs, you will need to swivel your seat round so that you exit onto the landing safely. All Handicare stairlifts come with a manual swivel that is operated from a handle located at either side of the seat.
The Handicare Freecurve seat also comes in a wide variety of styles and choices as well. You can choose from our Classic, Elegance or Alliance seats to further customise your lift both in terms of how it looks and also the option features that you can add.
In order for the seat to get low enough for the user to sit on, it is necessary for the track to extend beyond the staircase to the lower floor level. Or in some cases, there may be a doorway close to the bottom of the stairs and the track may intrude across this. In these circumstances a hinged track should be installed. This means that the track can be folded away from the doorway giving clear access.
In order to maximize free space, all Handicare stairlifts have seats, footplates and arms that are designed to be manually folded up out of the way when not in use, allowing clear access for other stair users.
In some circumstances, our single tube curved track can offer an alternative to a hinged track. If your staircase is compatible, a drop nose track can be installed which means the track will finish closer to the stairs than with a standard finish thereby removing the need for a hinged track.

Handicare’s timeless new Alliance seat has a powerful appearance which makes it go with any interior. The combination of wood and leather upholstery also makes the seat easy on the eye and an essential addition to your stairlift. The Alliance is available in three different colour combinations.
Elegance Seat
The Elegance stairlift seat combines elegant design with refined comfort, due in part to its super-soft upholstery. The seat has stylish upholstery with a luxurious feel. The upholstery's protective layer means that the stairlift seat is both durable and easy to clean. The armrests can be adjusted outwards to create a wider seat.
Classic Seat
The ergonomically designed Classic seat is extremely comfortable. The seat has been designed together with physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The Classic seat comes in a luxurious, but easy to clean, leather-grain finish.
